Today I spent most of my studio time working on a large piece and at the end of the day here, I was inspired by this stormy Kauai beach study. I kept the brush strokes loose to capture the fluidity of the moment.

I noticed these wild looking bananas during a garden walk on Maui. The magenta bougainvillea was just as wild, as if it was competing with the bananas.

It was late in the day in San Diego and then all of a sudden the rain clouds came in and the sky started to darken to these dramatic blues, purples, oranges and reds. This particular 50s style track house with it's mature king palms struck me as interesting.

This painting really has more of a turquoise blue background versus the slightly greyish blue that I see on my monitor. Anyway, I love flamingos and and they are really fun to both watch and paint!

The flowers of giant birds of paradise are often over looked. I have several large giant bird of paradises on either side of the entry way to my home studio. Their large leaves are stunning and if one looks carefully enough, the blue and white flowers can be seen peering out from their hiding spaces.

I have a passion for palm trees. Living in California, I have grown up around palms and appreciate their graceful gestures. Though it does not grow in California, the coconut palm is a symbol for the good life. This is just a moment in time for this beautiful tree.
