One of my favorite things to do is to drive around and see how and where people live. I do this everywhere I travel to, be it a Southern California beach town or an island. This scene is really about an island memory from one of these occasions.

Last month I had the honor of exhibiting in Miami for the Art Basel/Art Miami shows. I took a red eye flight on a Saturday night into Ft. Lauderdale and arrived early Sunday morning. Knowing that my condo wouldn't be ready until the afternoon, I drove directly to the Fairchild Tropical Botanical Garden and toured this treasured garden almost until closing.

The amazing thing is that if felt like I was there just yesterday as I know this garden so well. In reality, my last visit was during the week of Hurricane Charlie.

Flying over the Santa Cruz Yacht Harbor

This was a really neat moment...a flock of birds was flying out of the Santa Cruz Yacht Harbor and a sail boat was cruising in. One of my closest friends used to live behind this tidy little harbor and painting these scenes brings back many fond memories of walking and talking on the beach followed by cups of Sweet & Spicy tea.

Moody ocean scenes are among my favorite subjects to paint. I lived near this seaside town, Capitol, for nearly a decade and it's influences are strong in my life. This is one of the mature fan palms that is located in the Capitola Village.

Tomorrow morning I will be flying to New York on business. This is an exciting time in my career as so many options are opening up.
